Youth Conversation Starters

Here's a family activity to help you initiate some important dialogue with your child. Create strips printed with the words below. Photocopy these strips. Fold them in half and put them in a small plastic storage bag. Use and reuse them at meals, at family meeting times, during a long trip, while you're waiting on the pizza delivery or while you're in line for concert tickets. Draw one strip as a round-robin discussion topic or let each person select an individual strip. (Better yet, hold the pizza as ransom until the strip is discussed!)

Why Practice Character Education?

Parents are the number one educator of character, but school teachers and faculty are in the perfect position to reinforce good values and character during the school day. Teaching character improves decision making and behavior, which in turn improves the ethical quality of society.

Why Should you Donate to Character Education?

As the ACEF continues to grow, their hope is to provide character education resources for any and all parents and teachers in need. Help ensure the future of Character Education in Arizona’s schools and make a donation today.

Talk to Your Child

It sounds easy, but sometimes between work, homework and all our personal responsibilities we forget to take time to ask questions of our children. Talk about the six pillars of character.

Take a moment to ask your child questions that relate to good character. Here are a couple ideas...

  • What's the toughest decisions you've (the child) had to make lately?
  • Who is one of your all-time heroes? Why?
  • What could we do to make things fairer in our family?
Testimonials

November, 2010

"We have established a Character Counts ticket system which is called a Soaring Eagle, it is designed to reinforce the six pillars of Character Counts. We hold Character Counts breakfast every quarter for students that have shown good Character numerous times. At the breakfast we give them tickets to the Sungs game, free meals from local donations, a back pack and have them sign their names on the Character Counts wall."
